Pre-Conference: Media Training for Locally Sourced Libraries: Proactive & Reactive

Speaker(s):

This ½ day pre-conference workshop will explore both sides of media relations: proactive and reactive.
Building relationships with local and regional media is a key part of advocacy, but having the confidence and skills to speak with members of the media takes practice. Topics covered include promoting events with local media, interview skills and how to work effectively with journalists. This workshop will help you learn how to be an effective advocate for your library. It will provide participants with the opportunity to write key messages and a media release, as well as practice their interview skills. Participants will come away with a sense of how to recognize opportunities for advocacy, as well as how to speak to difficult issues.
